Choosing Distance Ed- Samuel

Updated: Sep 3, 2020

This series features articles written by distance learners from The University of the People and other distance education institutions. They share their experiences and provide you with advice to help you navigate studying online. These students are from all over the world with diverse cultural backgrounds but all have at least one thing in common. They are driven to learn and they have all chosen to do so virtually. Find out about their journey, what inspires them and network with them to learn more.

An intelligent mind communicates with compassion, knowledge and openness. Distance education fosters intelligence from miles apart. It connects us all and reveals the true human within us.

Here is Samuel's Journey:

I am Samuel Kanini,I joined UoPeople in 2017 for a degree program in Computer Science,I will be graduating in 2021. My degree has inspired me to research and learn more on the framework of online interaction and the network behind it. I am specializing in website design and development in full stack and using frontend languages such as HTML,Css, JavaScript, Reactjs, jsx and json; Also backend languages such as php, mysqli. I am currently working on a web application that will solve a great challenge that is facing many households in my country and abroad. My degree is very marketable.

What matters is the manpower and the skills that one is ready to put in place in real time projects. What I like the most about studying at Uopeople is the opportunity I get regardless of my age, race, religious affiliation or country of origin to study at the University and acquire my degree tuition free and under full scholarship! The only challenge that I have endeavored so far is internet connectivity, but I have braced the challenge.

The flexibility in learning and the students’ interaction in discussion forums is an amazing part of the experience. The platform allows not only for students to learn and socialize but to also get along with their daily activities uninterrupted.

What Samuel Wants You To Know

The advice I can give to prospective students is this: You must be ready to learn before joining the University, because you will meet highly qualified professors who want nothing but the best for you.

Thank You and all the best!
