Top 10 Websites to Upskill and Learn Online For Free

Updated: Oct 6, 2020

Learning has been made so convenient and affordable due to globalization. It is now much easier for you to level up your skillset whether for your career, personal development or business. Whatever the reason is, there are a plethora of resources available online that you can indulge in. There are a lot of experts and educators sharing their knowledge and insight so that you can take your skills and knowledge to the next level. Here are the top 10 best websites to upskill for free:

1. Udemy- This platform has the highest number of students compared to the others. Some courses are free and others are heavily discounted. You can search for just about any topic and find a course available on Udemy.

2. Coursera- This is a personal preference as the courses are produced by instructors or professors who are experts in their respective fields.

3. edEx- Great quality courses. This I recently discovered but it is a great resource as it provides courses from various schools, which gives you a bit of peace of mind to know that the information you are learning is legitimate. edEx has partnered with various schools including Georgetown University, Harvard, Boston University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and many more from around the world.

4. Standford Online- There are a plethora of courses available on this website. There are some limitations as certain course are only through the direct website and not partner programs or requires iTunes (another place where you can find free educational courses). You get to study at your own pace and everything is nicely laid out.

5. Harvard Extension School- Yes! You can take free online courses produced by Ivy League institutions. Just think about how that will look on your resume, not to mention to mention what it could do for your career!.

6. MIT Open Courses- Along with other universities, MIT offers courses that are professional, in depth and highly education.

7. Open Yale Courses- All courses are recorded in the Yale college classroom and available in various formats, depending on if you are a visual or auditory learner.

8. Khan Academy- My absolute favorite thing about Khan is that it caters to everyone. Which means you could be taking a course on Khan while your child is also doing the same! It is very organized and user friendly. *Kid Friendly*

9. Udacity- Is great and offers a limited 7 free trial but for a free alternative, try Lifehack Fast Track Class. Life hack teaches you to become more productive and increase your skills. The idea is to teach you schools that are not necessarily taught in traditional schools.

10. Academic Earth- Features courses from various universities on a number of different topics!

Of course there are noteworthy options like TEDed, University of London Podcast, LinkedIn, BBC Podcast or even YouTube if you want to go the more informal route. Let me know if these were helping by liking, sharing or commenting.
