We will not be discussing romance or crushes since the concept may be foreign to some. This is more of an exploration and celebration that highlights the feelings of love. It can be seen through the eyes that we meet and the gestures that we see. It is a concept that applies to all of us in some way and in varying degrees. Whether you are at the far end of the spectrum or just wanting a quick refresher there is something here to learn or remember. We experience love in our own ways and with every feeling there is a story. What is your story?
Finding Love On A Two Way Street
Kindness is all around us. You would be surprised at how much it would brighten up someone else's day if you say a kind word or even smile. Growing up I was always taught to say good morning to the people I see. You never know how much a simple gesture could stop someone from falling a part or breaking. You could even save someone's life. Smiling is contagious and so is kindness and love. If we give a little more, there will be more in the world. We are not confusing kindness with love but isn't kindness a portrayal of love or at least a trait from someone who has love within them? I have found love on a two way street many times in my life and this is what inspired Lines of Love & Living.
There are moments of kindness that I simply cannot forget like being on a long layover in Germany many years ago with only Chinese currency and having a complete stranger pay for my coffee and a pretzel. That could have been his last dollar. I have found throughout my travels that people have been exceptionally kind, welcoming and courteous. Each day I try to give some of that back. Kindness is not something you keep to yourself because you may lose it on a lonely highway. It is something that you share. It is a two way street.
I don't mean you have to be in love, you just have to experience the flavor of love- an excerpt from Lines of Love & Living.
Ways to Fill Your Life With Love
Smile more. It sounds cliche but smiling releases endorphins, your body's natural happy drug. It relaxes you. It also puts a smile on the face of the person next to you. We all have hard days and sometimes just that one gesture can make the day worthwhile for someone.
Be receptive. For the love of all things good, be just a little more inviting! I find that when I am more myself, people are more likely to be kind. We don't always need the hard persona or the assertive attitude. Unclench your teeth and relax.
Be mindful. Be present. Be there. That's it. Be an active ear for someone or a shoulder. Offer a helping hand. There is enough kindness in the world, we just need to open our eyes to see it more and actively participate. Love can be a decision and choice that you make.
Read. I recommend The Art of Loving by Erich Fromm. There are some great books out there and even movies. Read about love and kindness and let it fill you up. Practice self-care. Remember, happiness will look different for everyone and it does not stay the same.
Be kind, confident and brave. Believe in yourself. Understand that you are more of a constant than anyone else or anything else in your life. Work on yourself but also find peace and happiness in every stage of the process. Trust yourself and know that you can do it.
Practice Altruism. You can be the gift. Offer your time, kind words and a helping hand to someone else. It is a wholesome experience on an emotional, physical and spiritual level for both the giver and receiver.
Love is Actually All Around Us
Love is not static or perfect. That perfect love that we wish to meet can only be found in our Creator. We possess the ability to make or break a heart based on the words that we say, the things that we do and what we allow. Sometimes we wait for acts of love and kindness but if we just step out in faith we will see that people need us as much as we need them. The act of giving inspires a chain reaction that is beautiful and nurturing. And when you think about it, love actually, is all around us.
It is a rhythm that we must allow to govern our every feat- An excerpt from Lines of Love &Living.
